From 1980-something to 1999 it was Bilstein shocks, a limited slip rear end and a decal "Z71". They used to offer the 350 to replace the standard 305 in the smaller trucks for awhile but they stopped that in 98 I think. They also offered a different style wheel and tire combo with the Z71. But since the newer body style of 99 to the present, a decal is all I have noticed so far, so Im not sure. They probably have a better limited slip rear end. Not positive tho.

Actually they stopped putting in 350 as standard equipment in the older Z71 trucks and just went with the 305 back when they started using Votech engines and stopped using the TBI. 1993, 1994 maybe?

is the name given to the option code of a special off road suspension package offered by General Motors. This option first appeared on the 1988 to 1998 generation Chevy/GMC trucks. In 2000, Z71 became an option package on Chevrolet Tahoes. Exterior features included 4 Wheel drive and optional 2 Wheel Drive, on/off road tires, a limited slip differential, color-coded bumpers, fog lamps, a grill guard, tail lamp guards, tubular side steps, a skid plate, special 5 spoke aluminum alloy wheels, and distinctive "Z71" badges. The inside received distinctive two-tone leather appointments. "Z71" Tahoes could be ordered in 5 colors: Sport Red, Bermuda Blue, Silver Birch, Black, or Summit White. With the success of "Z71" as a separate model rather than just a suspension package, Chevrolet Tahoes and soon after Suburbans continued this option and it is still available on current Tahoes, Avalanches, and Suburbans.

.............Be warned, Im blowin this subject up!

Man, my '04 4x4 came with all that except the damn Fog Lamps. So for the want of Fog Lamps I didn't get the cool z71 decal?!?

You can still get the decal ...on Ebay ...you can even get a cooler looking one. ...I'm still debating if I want to debadge or not ...If I decide to keep my badges, I'm going to change my Z71 logo to an aftermarket one.
