Ok I am looking into getting my mom a remote starter for her 2006 duramax for Christmas, but I have no idea what to look for. All I know is that I live in Michigan and need one with glow plug delay. The only information that I have been able to scrounge up is that I don't want a factory one because the range sucks

 

Ok we went out and bought a Viper 1 way remote starter. It has glow plug delay and a 1500ft range. total bill with install and keyless remote programming was $270. Which I don't think is too bad

 

ok, Just got it installed and it works great but the Check engine light is on and I don't know why. My dad just took it back to the shop to have him read the codes, but he isnt authorized to do anything about it. Any Idea's???

 

Did they put in the extra key for the encripted ignition key? Or if it didn't need it, then get the codes pulled and see what is causing this. Theymay have to pull the codes with the truck in the pre-start mode with the remote starter controllingthe truck.

 

They just f-ed something up when they installed it. We took it back and they fixed it. I'm not sure that the alarm is working though.
