I am looking at a 92 chevy with a 5 speed for sale for 2500 bucks with new rims and tires....worth the money. Apparently someone test drove it yesterday and downshifted from 4th to 1st and now 1st gear is gone. Everything else still works normally. Any ideas of what might need to be done to fix this? Will it need a whole new tranny? He now is asking 2000, I could probably get it for around 16 to 1700. What do you think something like this will cost to fix?

those liteweight 5 speeds are pretty much not serviceable...you MAY find a tranny shop willing to go into it though...i'd find a used trans
