has anyone replaced the front u joints on a 01 1500?

 

I have a 01 that needs the inside tierod ends replaced. I have about 57K miles on it and contacted GM about it but they will not do anything for me because I am not the original owner, did not buy from a Chev dealer and do not have my maintenance performed at a dealer. It will cost me about $300.
