Default Fuel Filter Replacement

I know that fuel filters should be replaced every 30-50K miles but on my 2006 Silverado the filter is attached to the fuel pump in the tank. What is peoples experience about this? Can you change the filter? Do you have to wait til the fuel pump dies and leaves you on the side of the road? Thanks for any input.

I've heard of that 2. Not sure if they are serviceable. I know some guys just add a filter in line. But I know that will void warranty. Best bet is to call the service dept. at the dealer.

I don't know about your truck but sounds like one of my Jeeps. My '04 Grand Cherokee has the in tank fuel filter (which I think is stupid cause I'm all for changing filters to keep things running clean) and the manual says the filter shouldn't need changing for the life of the vehicle, unless there a check engine light goes off indicating there is a problem, and then it needs to be performed by a stealership service center.

of course when they say "life of the vehicle" I don't think they consider people like me who put 2-300k miles on their vehicles before even thinking about getting rid of them.
