straight pipe exhaust. cold air intake. programmer maybe

i put straight pipes on it and i get worse because i love to step on it and hear them things rumble

yeah, i'm with yall on exhaust... i'd get a throttle body spacer

K&N filter, TBS, free up exhaust a little.

What year-model truck? The newer trucks with the 5.3L need a little bit of back pressure. That is probably why you lost fuel milage when you went to straight pipes. I think that I lost some on my truck too when I put true duels on my 98'.
