RE: gas mileage
With a 5.7L 350, that seems bout right. 6.0L new trucks are getting bout the same. Add cold air intake, 1 in 2 out catback dual exhaust system, as long as you can refrain yourself from getting onthe throttleso as to hear your nice sounding exhaust, you'll be ok, but i haven't been able to do that yet. Different gearing might help but.......... can be expensive just to get a bit better MPG's. I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge than myself will chime in. My '03 Silverado has the 4.8L and with what i described above, i'm hoping to get better gas mileage as soon as i can stop wanting to hear her BLAAAAAAAAAAAT so much. I got i think it was like almost 17 mpg last summer on a road trip to Massachusetts. That was before the catback system. Around town, i was getting about 15 on average. I only live 3 miles from work and downtown, so i go thru stop n go traffic alot. Or secondary roads. My wife has an '02 Avalanche with the 5.3L, and she travels about 30 miles one way to work. Half of it is highway driving. Her Av has a 31 gallon tank, and back n forth to work 5 days a week, she uses 1/2 tank of fuel, which in my mind, is not bad at all, and she has the drop in K&N filter, and used to have Gibson catback system, but had to replace it, so she went with oem exhaust system. She weren't fond of the noise from the Gibson exhaust, but was what came with it when we bought it. Just my .02 worth, Jim

RE: gas mileage
either a new filter (k&n, true flow, aem) or an intake... a throttle body spacer, and exhaust will help your mileage... also just general maintainence things like spark plugs and whatnot if they haven't been changed in a while

RE: gas mileage
My 5.7 delivers anywhere from 17-19mpgs highway when I'm treating the bastard very gentley.
It's a whole other story when I'm 'city' driving. In the city, it just plummits. I'm talking 8-10 mpgs. That is mostly due to focking stop lights, speed cameras, general ********* who drive 25MPH in 40MPH zones...
Traffic = Makes my blood boil. That's 150% of the reason why I bought a house out in the country. There isn't a single stoplight for 8 miles. (The only stop signs are also very easily 'blow throughable'.)
Get a drop-in K&N air filter. That's my only advice. They're $55 @ Autozone/Schucks.

RE: gas mileage
Friend of mine said he got better mileage doing the following:
K&N air filter
change to Synthetic oil
add throttle body spacer
I also have a 3/4 ton with 350: I suggest,
tuneup
add seafoam to fuel system
change differentials to 3.73 or higher
drive no faster than 62 mph
that about as good as it gets, if not good enough, then trade up for new technology.
