Default gears

im looking to get some better gears in my 87 to go with my engine upgrade. im thinking about getting 3.08, 3.23, or 3.42. which ones are going to work better and for about how much. buy new gears or used. i have to drive about 50 miles a day to and from school with some intersate and lots of in town traffic. right now im looking for something with a little bit more low end.

What size tires? And always buy new gears. Used are never going to last.

3.42 is as high as i'd go with 32's... but thats just me... i have 3.42s on 31s and its fine for the highway, if anything it could stand to be lower

3.42 will probably do you best with that size tire.

3.08, 3.23, or 3.42
Well depending on tire size....

3.08 - Highway speeds at lowest rpm, acceleration ok
3.23 - Highway speeds at higher rpm than 3.08, acceleration better
3.42 - Highway speeds at highest rpm (of the three), acceleration best

...oh and in my experience 3.08 usually means it will be a dog.

but you are also running 32" tires, not 29", so if you had 29" 3.08 would be good, but for 32" go with 3.42.
