about 75 miles north of conroe...crockett area

 

I know exactly where thats at...My great grandmother lived in Grapland between Crockett and Palestine until she got too old to take care of herself and moved in with my parents! Ive been through there many times.

 

I have been getting the same grinding noise from my truck as well. Getting it checked out when I get a chance. I will let you know what they find out..

 

Mine will be going into the chevrolet dealer this coming weekend to diagnose and repair whatever it is that is wrong. If you find out first let me know so I will kinda have an idea when I go in and if I find out first I will post the info for ya!

 

So I finally talked my mom into letting me borrow her truck for a week so I could put mine in the shopfor the grinding noise and the guys told me its the transfer case and they are rebuilding it. Good newsis thats covered under the warranty and will cost me nothing, Bad news is they are telling me that the input shaft on the frontdiff is leaking fromaround the sealand they want 400.00 to replace it. Does anyone know how hard this is and what all it intails(sp) if I decide to do it myself?

 

400??..it must be for the right axle seal,i assume?..its the only 1 of 3 front seals that cost some bucks...the left,or the pinion,are much easier.

my exact location is at Houston County Lake..my wife works at Grapeland elemntary

 

My 91 was leaking from the front diff. My mechanic told me that its not worth fixing unless its leaking bad, like a little puddle or so under the truck overnight. My 91 always leaked there and I had to top it off with a few squirts every year.

 

They said its the front differential input shaft thats leaking, I have no clue which that is though! They said it was just barely low and I said then leave it alone and I will fill it up every oil change. I havent checked the front diff fluid in 8 months and it was only a little low so it cant be leaking that bad. Im supposed to be getting the truck back this Friday and you can bet Im gonna make sure all the noises are gone before I leave it with it!

Argon: is that Houston County Lake the same as Salmon Lake? If I remember right Salmon lake isnt far from Grapeland Highschool. My brother and I went there every summer as kids!

 

no..its a bigger lake out of town..between grapeland and crockett..

400 is way too high for that seal..its probably just oily from the oil filter dripping on it every oil change anyway
