Default hard starting after warm?

just bought a 2000 serria z71 5.3 with 47k.
truck fires up easily when cold but when i stop for short amounts of time i have to crank the engine for like 3-5 seconds and it will finally start but have to give gas to get it to smooth out. i can smell gas after this has happened.
can it be the plugs and wires after only 47k ? or a fuel problem and why not when it is cold?
the poeple i bought it from drove to 27k in 5 years (older couple)
i can also hear the fuel pump don't know if it is loud or normal haven't owned a gmc before to compare.
any advice would be helpful. before i have to take it to a srevice station.
thanks
marc

I imagine for fuel regulator is dripping fuel into the engine...on the left side of the engine, pull the vacuum hose off and see if there is gas in it
