Help: Engine Keeps Shutting Off!
Quick Summary of Problem:
On a long trip home yesterday, 300 miles, my '94 Suburban shut off on me about 15 times. Scary, right on the Interstate. It would just jolt and cough, then stop. It's 350 Engine.
The tach would fall abruptly then go back up, then I'd buck for several seconds, then stall.
Restarting was difficult, and most often the engine would go to idle then shut off again. Sometimes the engine would turn over on start up, but not start--like it was starved of gas.
It seemed forawhile that if I kept the RPMs up, the engine would run and not choke off. I did go 200 miles without it shutting off, but then when RPMs fell below 2000 it jolted, bucked and shut off--and all the troubles repeated.
A few times I was literally bucking for a mile. Uphill seemed worse, but I can't swear to that.
So: Do I have a bad fuel pump? A bad fuel filter? Or, is there something wrong with the electrical system? The "feel" was that the key was being turned off and on, repeatedly, or that fuel was being deprived off and on.
The battery seems strong. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like fuel, but something you might check. My brothers 92 silverado with a 350 has had the computer fail on him a couple times where it did a little somthing like that, but it wasnt for 200 miles, more like 2 and then it had nothing. Sounds like fuel in your part.
I keep going to the dealer even though they seem expensive. The total bill was $580.00.
I could probably find a good garage.
I'm glad it's working again. Overall, it sure is a dependable engine. Just a simple V8.
Thanks again for the help.
