blew a hose on my 03 silverado coming home tonight, I reconnected it but I have no fluid so I have near no brakes and armstrong steering.

What type of fluid do I need haha? sounds dumb but I thought brake/steering fluid was seperate and what is the capacity of said fluid needed.
and how long could I drive it before the p/s motor etc is toast?
I need to drive a couple hours back to school this weekend so please help.

I assume you blew a hydroboost line if you lost brakes and steering. That just calls for power steering fluid. Just fill up your power steering resevoir, start it up, work the steering wheel back and forth a few times and recheck the level. Top it off if needed. Good luck.

Same symptoms on our 2006 Duramax when the PS pump went out. Does anyone else find it a tad disconcerting that if any power steering component were to fail, you would also be unable to stop?

I also didnt have my wallet, was OUT OF GAS, and it was -20 celcius.

 

Stopping is overrated!!! Thats why we have an E brake. Just kidding...I have thought the same thing a couple times.
