HELP!!! Tailgate handle broken.

Default HELP!!! Tailgate handle broken.
Help please.... I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 2wd extender cab short bed and the tailgate handle is broken, is there any other way to be able to get the tailgate open so i can replace the broken handle??

The handle assembly should come apart by taking the screws out from the bed side and then you can pull on the cables to open the tailgate.

You can use a large flat head screw driver to pry open the latches from the inside, or you can use a pair of pliers and pull the rods from under the handle.
