Default How could my 4.8 beat 5.3 with $1,000?

So me and 2 of my buds of mine decided to get the 07+ Silverados Single Cab this month. They both got the 5.3s and i found a 4.8 $5,000 cheaper so i went for it. Now my question is how could i keep up with them ( iknow this trucks are slow) I just dont want to get smoked everytime... What should i buy and why?!

I have driven a few of them and they aren't that much slower (except for one I rented one time, but I think it was geared real high or something). I would check gearing first to see what your truck came with. IMO gearing can be the best bang for the buck if your truck came stock with some highway gears and you go to a 3.73 or 4.10. It will affect mileage a little, but the different feel is well worth it. If the truck is 4WD it will definitely be more expensive to change gears though (gotta do front and rear). Anyway, that and a good ECM custom tune is where I would start.

You should be able to regear a 2WD for around $700. I would skip the K&N and Jet and do a custom tune like blackbearperformance.com offers. They are way better than a plug in module. I have used black bear for 2 trucks and will be sending my current trucks ECM to them in the near future.

A cheap 100 HP nitrous kit would beat them for a few hundred bucks.

Well the 4.8s can put out some power but its gonna take some money to do that. Just a tune and CAI isn't gonna do it. More like a cam/ gear/ stall combo, that is if you wanna really get it like this guy...

So you made a very good deal and saved $5000.00

The truck get you around in style and you have $5000 G's in the bank, rub that in your buddies face, and don't worry about who has the fastest truck.

If that is your real concern you bought the wrong truck.

Cash is King
