Default How many miles is too many miles for a 2004 or 2005 Chevy Suburban

Good Morning All,

I am looking to buy a used Chevy Suburban around Thanksgiving. I am wanting to know, how many miles is too many miles when buying a truck. When I purchase said vehicle, what should I do first if anything such as oil changes or transmission flush. Thanks for your time.

Eryka

Mainly the transmission is what you wanna look at. These motors go lots of miles before showing signs of wear.

So how do you go about checking the transmission to make sure that i get about another 150,000 miles. Should i go about getting it flushed or replacing a seal of some sort. Sorry for the weird questions, just want to make sure that i have my basis covered.

Well as long as it shifts good, you will be ok. Keep the fluid clean they will last many miles. Its really hard to look inside a tranny without opening it up. So its sort of a hoping game. But like I said, if it runs good, nothin to worry bout.

Yeah like Ruffneck said these motors are incredibly long lasting. The transmissions don't last as long as the motors, but what transmission does. I would try and do as much research on the truck you have in mind to find out how much heavy pulling, if any, they have done with the truck. The 4L60E is a real decent transmission if it isn't overworked. I have 105,000 on my wifes 2002 Yukon, and 150,000 on my 2001 Silverado and they both are still running and shifting great. A good friend of mine is a lead GM tech at a store in Florida and he is the one that turned me onto these trucks (I was a diehard 350 and 454 guy). He see's them regularly with 250,000 plus still running great. I think the 5.3 is the best all around motor for decent mileage and power out right now. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.
