I have a question.
I just recently bought a 2002 GMC Sierra SLE with 83900 miles on it. 5.3L. I've had it a little over a week now. Today I pulled up at Autozone and left it idling while I went in, family wasin the truck btw. I was in there about 5-10 minutes maybe. Anyway, when I got back in I tapped the gas pedal by accident and happened to see a little puff of white smoke go by, so I tapped the pedal again and saw the smoke come from my exhaust[:@]. After one rev it quit. When I got home I sat and let it idle for a little while and was able to reproduce the smoke but this time is was just a very little puff.
So has anybody else had this problem and what could it be? How big a deal is this? I'm thinking it might be the valve guides. I can still go purchase a 12 month 12k mile powertrain for until the end of the year, problem being it's $1700 bucks. Any and all advice is welcomed. Thanks
Ken

Well I decided to just bite the bullet and buy that damn warranty. I owned a 2002 Silverado five years and it never smoked one time. I just have a gut feeling something is up and I don't want to have topay for it all at once out of my own pocket. BTWI put 10w 30 in it. I'm going to drive it to Houston from DFW on Sunday so we'll see how it does.
Well your biggest mistake was pulling into Autozone. There's no telling what kind of influence that had on your truck.
But seriously, I haven't heard of anyone having problems burning oil either. Did you recently get exhaust work done? A new mufflerwill cause a little smoke. Other than that I'd suspect a blown head gasket. Good luck with it either way man.
