Hi so i turn sixteen in around 3 months and i have around 12,000 saved up for a truck and i am currently looking at picking up a 2003-2007 gmc/chevy 1500 classic and build it out nice. Now i do live in the salt belt and ik they are prone to rusting any advice on where to look and if its even a good idea.

 

You should check for rust under the truck, on the frame, and around the wheel wells. If you are set on a GMC/Chevy 1500, try to find one that was well cared for and not driven much in the winter. Look for service records and ask if the truck was undercoated.

Also, consider checking Ford trucks from the same years. You might find one in better shape. Try looking at used car websites, local dealerships, and private sellers. If possible, bring someone who knows trucks to check it with you.
