Would changing my stock GM filter for a K&N do any good without the entire CAI?

 

Yeah it will be fine, its pretty close in hp gain but the best bang for the buck would be a K&N filter and a Airaid Intake Tube and it will cost $50-$150 less than a CAI with thesame gains. Look into the Free HP Mods List too.

 

it'll only make a difference when your close to wide open throttle....just cruising,the butterfly restricts air intake anyway

 

Yeah, but the less restrictions other than the one that controls the engine, the better off you will be for fuel economy and HP gains.

 

i did just the k&n first and i noticed a small difference in power, like argon said mostly when i was romping on it. but i did get about 1.5 mpg city driving and about 2 highway with it

 

i also did the a filter swap. it felt like maybe a slight increase in power but did notice a gain in mpg. i can get 18-19 highway driving going about 60-65. and also helped in town. still looking to get a airaid intake tube.
