Metallic Clunking under truck bed
Hi all,
My 2000 Silverado 1500 Stepside 4.3L has developed a loud metallic clunk under the bed when hitting bumps or going over speed bumps. This wasn't an issue until just recently with the weather going from warm to snow storms/cold almost over night. I'm assuming the cold weather has caused some contraction of bushings somewhere in back. Any ideas on where I should be looking? All shocks were replaced on the truck this past summer and upon inspection they still look good. So I don't believe this to be the issue. Thanks you! |
Make sure the shocks are tight, leaf spring bushings aren't broke, leafs aren't cracked, spare tires is tight, gas tank straps secure - you should be able to get under there with a pry bar and find the culprit by moving stuff around. If you have a helper you can have them bounce on the bumper to see if it makes the noise while your under the truck.

I have my dual exhaust tips mounted directly up against my reciever hitch. They clang sometimes.
