Muffler or no Muffler

Muffler or no Muffler
I've seen a couple of guys around town that installed a y-pipe from the cat to dual pipes out the back with NO muffler (they don't have aftermarket headers) and i was wondering if anyone on here has tried this setup? The sound is awesome but is there any loss in torque? I have an 06 5.3...I'm told that the cat will muffle the sound a little and has enough back pressure so muffler really isn't even needed.
Has anyone used or heard anything about SuperTrap exhausts?

What are ya'lls thoughts?

RE: Muffler or no Muffler
I think it will be louder than you think. It would prob sound good but there is going to be alot of interior resonance Im sure. I've never tried it. You will loose enough back pressure to kill a little of your torque. You might be able to counteract some of this by using smaller diameter pipe, like say 2" or 1 and 3/4". I tried doing this when I straight piped my 91' and it worked. I used 2" insted of 2 and 1/2" pipe whith a glasspack and no cat and it gave me a pretty good balance between top end gain and torque loss. But then again I didn't have duals.

RE: Muffler or no Muffler
Thanks guys...I saw an 81 blazer with a super trap on it and it sounded pretty mean. The site says you can add or remove the baffles to increase or decrease the back pressure so I guess you can actually tune these exhausts...I might go for one and let ya'll know, after all, Christmas is just around the corner
