For the best performance tone, you cant go wrong with the super 40's, or the deltas

I know I am a newbie here but here is my 2 cents. I have an 06 Crew Cab Z71 and just put the 50 series Big Blocks on it. I have had it for 2 days now and couldn't be happier. Deep rumble on the outside, quiet on the inside. Go to Flowmasters website and listen to the sound clips and compare the sound charts.

Dont Know much about the differences in the muffles But I have a 10 Series flowmaster. It's a racing muffler. However if you look into the muffler select a small inlet and outlet diamiter for the pipe because you will loose a lil back pressure. As for your sound problem invest in some dynamat http://www.dynamat.com/
Used normaly to keep sound in but should do the trick to keep the sound out. Can get pricy though.

Actually, if im not mistaken... Dynamat is used as a vibration dampener, and some types for heat applications. I dont think it really has anything to do with keeping sound in though. The way it works is by putting it behind your speakers and it rattles less and you get a better sound quality though out your ride.

RE: mufflers
All of you are actually right, Alot of guys with big base and loud stereos use it to keep out road noise, control where base goes and eliminate annoying rattles. I am sure there are other uses and all of you have seen some.
