Default Need grill help

I have a 2004 gmc 2500HD I hit a turkey on my way to work the other morning and busted my grill. A new one cost over $600 I found someone who has a new one in the box for $300 it goes to a 1500 so it doesn't have the black filler piece on the bottom. Can I take the one off mine and put it on the 1500 ?? Can this be done?? Dealer says no it has to be a 2500HD. What do you guys think?? THANK YOU

I'm almost positive you could put a custom one on there for less than $300
