So a buddy of mine bought a set of rims and they don't fit his truck. You know what that means right? He's selling them, and for a steal. He also bought a new tool box and is getting rid the old one.

He's asking $350. But I'm sure I can swipe them up for $300.

What size tires will I be able to put on these rims without a lift? They are 16x8.

You didn't say what year your truck is but generally speaking a late model Z71 will take an LT285/75R16 or 33 inch tire without a lift. That tire will fit that rim size.

 

My truck is a 97 GMC Sierra, Ext. Cab, 4x4. Will I rub at all with 285's?

 

I don't know. I had a 91 chevy 4x4 and when I put LT285 tires on it the outside edge of the tire tread would rub the fender skirt trim when I would go off road bouncing up and down. This was the front, the back was OK. It had a metal trim so I just cut the trim in two places about 18 inches apart and folder it back up, problem solved. The 285 is about an inch wider than a 265 which is most likely what is on your truck now. You might be able to eye ball it. Another suggestion is to talk to the tire shop and see if they will mount two for the front and see how they look. Turn the wheels full side to side and see if they rum anywhere. Maybe get a couple of friends and bounce the truck up and down. Good luck.
