hi this is my first time on here and here's my ?? I just bought a new silverado and it has the small V8 in i think it is the 4.8 anyway the salesman told me that i should change the oil as soon as i can to Mobil 1 5w30 syn. oil and change the transmission fluid to synth. fluid and change the gear oil to syn. what do y'all think.

 

What year did you get??

My 07 Silver 4.8 sticker says it has synthetic fluid in the rear axle already.

Hi guys, I'm also new here and have questions similar to deepwaterwolf - what kind of oil is best.
I've heard a few things recently - synthetic is better, but not to put it in a brand new engine

 

i used to drag race and built my own engines and i do remember being told not to run synthetic in a fresh engine. don't remember why. i didn't run it anyway so i didn't worry about it.
not sure how long you should wait. i would think by first oil change would be ok.

 

Royal Purple 20w50 is really good stuff. I have ran it in my truck for about 10,000 miles and i havent changed it yet. You pull out the dipstick and its clean as a whisel. Its like a 15,000 mile oil so about every 3000 i change the filter and top it off.

 

ive ran amzoil synthetech on my 06 shortbox 4x4 since i got it thats what most mechanics i talked to recommended
