Hi
i need some help. i own a 97 gmc yukon, with a 350 vortec.
i was driving down the road and when it went to shift i heard a bang and then it back fired.
when i got it home it had spark and would turn over but would not start. now that its been home i nolonger have spark adn when it turns over its like when the starter catches to start it it stops.
but i didnt throw a rod. and suggestions?

Doesn't sound real good,no....I bet something let go inside...better get the compression checked

 

Sounds like it has jumped time, check the timing chain.I have also seen the EIC's go bad and you get no spark. EIC( electronic ignitioncontrol module )
