Default Noisy driveshaft ?

I just noticed a noise only when I am in drive. It is a scraping noise coming from the underside middle of the truck. I am wondering if it could be the driveshaft or ujoint...

Not sure... 2006 gmc Sierra 2500HD 127K miles.

It is definitely not the brakes !

Any comments on how to check this with out the car in drive.... ?

Thanks in advance

Hey,
Put the truck on stands, make sure its stable. And put the Truck in drive, You should be able to find out what it is underneath with a creeper.

Thats how i check if my 4x4 is workin on my truck, by putting it on stands.

Hope this helps.

A rack is MUCH safer......... you can also climb under it and check for anything that may be rubbing on the drive shaft...i.e. limbs sticks ect.

Look at the carrier bearing. Just get under and move the shaft up and down and watch the rubber.

Glad that your problem was fixed.

But i do have a comment for chrisbmo2000.
IF!!!! you know how to use jack stands, it is perfectly safe, and if not just as safe to use jack stands as a rack would be.
PLUS, what if some of us do not have access to a rack? or the $ to use one?

Its just the typical disclaimer......but I have to say IMO jack stands are not as safe as a rack...and yes I understand not everyone has access to a rack....again its just a disclaimer
