OEM Hitch failure
#4
I have read on other forums to look out for the factory hitches if you tow heavy, but have yet to hear of an actual case where one failed. I would have to wonder if there are some that failed what they hell they were trying to move. I may be wrong but it seems like one of those internet rumors that people start repeating without having first hand knowledge.

That's like old-timer friends telling me early 2000s Fords would have plugs shooting out the block under load around 100miles. I've never seen it but it's happening somewhere I guess.
I hate fords. They keep me more broke than Chevy's do haha

Now I have heard of the ford thing. Apparently it's because some of the Fords had some poorly designed aluminum heads, and the plugs threads would strip out very easily.
Never seen it personally, but a guy at school was talking about it a while back.

The 5.4 Triton engines did have a head issue that Ford managed to avoid issuing a service recall on. It was a pretty expensive fix but wasn't near the issue that the Aurora motors had. Those things were junk.

Yep I have witnessed the Ford thing and have seen a few Expeditions with the entire body lifted off the chassis to repair the threads. I guess they are easier to lift the body off of instead of pulling the motor to get to the back cylinders - YUCK!!!!!

All in good fun Null lol. As far as your concern buzzard, the factory installed hitches meet the same standard as a waymire or a reese. I can see where a factory setup will be more prone to rust though. They build them to be hidden providing a cleaner look cosmetically. The problem is that there's more places for mud and wet snow and shtuff to get wedged and cause problems down the road.
