which one to get?
hey... i need help deciding between two trucks..
im lookin to get something that can be my daily driver but also i have a mowing buisness.. just me and one of my buddies got a bunch of yards.. i have a 16ft trailer that i typically have 2 mowers on and some other equipment.
i love silverados and im looking at a 1500...
- 1990's z71 with 5.7 V8 or 2001-2003 z71 with 5.3 V8...
why did they discontinue the 5.7? is the 5.3 good enough.. i want the best truck i can get for the money and i need advice...
will the 5.3 pull it no problem? or do i need the size and power of the 5.7??
help me out!

The 5.3 will pull it no problem, and be better on gas than the 5.7. I don't do a lot of towing, but I have pulled a double horse trailer a few times, and a car trailerwith no problems.

Either one would do the job. I prefer the 5.7 myself but sincethe 5.3 is in a newer model I would go with one of those. Also make sure you check the mileage on all that youlook at.If the 90's model has less miles than the others then I would go that route & try to get some history on the truck before you decide. Good luck on the truck...

I would go with the 5.7 just because it is so easy to get parts and they are so cheap so if you ever were to have a problem(unlikely) then you could literally get a new 350 for under $1000. Check out the thread about the million mile 350

I would go 5.3l hands down. Your concern should be with the transmission and the gears. It probably has the G80 rear which is known to be rather weak. Same with the 4L60e transmission. Get the trans as cool as possible. Put a deep pan on and put a big cooler on.

well...not really. despite being smaller, the 5.3 puts out more hp and tq than the 5.7 (stock at least)

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH I'VE TOWED WITH BOTH. IVE TOWED A 24ft.AND A 20ft. ENCLOSED CAR HAULER WITH A 66 NOVA INSIDE. TOTAL WIEGHT AROUND 5,000 LBS BEHIND ME. 5.3 TOWS BETTER BUT I GET WORSE MILEAGE WITHIT THAN I DID MY 5.7
