parasitic drive train loss?
hey guys, was wondering what a general rule of thumb was for parsitic loss through transfer case, transmission, rear end, that sort of thing?
someone told me like 20-25% which i thought was kind of high and then i heard like 8-12%.
just curious.
thanks

RE: parasitic drive train loss?
I would say between 11% and 13%. Most dyno sheets I have seen for rear wheel and 4 wheel drive vehicles follow that percentage. Front wheel drive is slightly lower because there are fewer coponents and no main drive shaft between the engine and the wheels.
My truck stock is 275 hp at the crank. and most dyno sheets for 99-2000 silverados are around 240-245 at the rear wheels.
So if mine was 240, then I loose 35 hp or roughly 12%
