Picked up my new project yesterday...
I have been in search of a project truck for quite some time. I wanted a running 90's model short bed regular cab to make into a fun little toy. I am real picky about color's especially the interior color so it has been hard to find one that I liked. I happened to be talking to a dealer friend of mine and mentioned it to him (again) and he said he had a customer trading in a 1995 GMC that was just like I was describing. I didn't want to get excited until I actually knew the truck was available. Well low and behold he calls me last night and says "Get over here before this truck gets sold!" Me and the wife hauled ass over there and WOW there it was. Just what I had been looking for. A 1995 indigo blue w/ gray interior GMC short bed regular cab 350 automatic truck. I haven't taken any pics of it yet, but figured I would document my little project here. I am very excited!!!!!

Congrats man. Post up some pics when you get the chance

Sounds like a good little project! I can't wait to see the documentation cuz it might give me a few ideas for mine...
Guess I'll have to get crackin' on that tutorials section then won't I? |
Very clean looking. Any body work been done to it? How many miles?
|
That is a nice looking truck.
|
congrats, looks like its in great shape.

very good shape

Is it throttle bodyy? What rearend is in it? I see it has a trailer break control on it... what type of hauling did the previous owner do? Does it have heavy duty shocks under the rear?

I know alot of you guys don't like lowering trucks, but it is going to get a slight lowering - probably 2 inch spindles in the front and a 3" hanger/shackle combo in the rear. Then I want a set of 17" wheels that are the same color silver as the bottom of the truck in the middle with a polished outer lip. I am still searching for what I have in mind. I know I have seen them somewhere. They look like Torque Thrust wheels. Stay tuned! |

The guy was a nut to have the brake controller...he towed a 20 foot bass boat. He was a lake fishing guide. I think the shocks are standard as the truck rides great and really takes bumps well with no weird rattles. It feels really solid. The rear end is a 3.42, but will probably end up a 3.73. My favorite thing is the truck is as clean underneath as it is on top. It came from central florida and has ZERO rust. It's amazing how many northern trucks end up around here. I looked at quite a few! |
Ok the first thing I wanted to do was replace the drivers door pins. The door had a slight drag when closing and sometimes it wouldn't shut on the first try. It has been a while since doing this job and it went smoother than I remembered it to. I did have to dig fairly deep in my tool box to find the spring tool, but I did find it and I couldn't imagine trying to get that spring out and back in without it. I didn't take any pictures - didn't want to bore you with a picture of a new pin in a door. Anyways, I can check that off the list. The door shuts perfect now!

hey thats a start

Man that truck is gonna have a nice low stance! Thats what I would do. Nice little project!!

Classy, nice truck

Really nice truck! You were lucky to find one that clean. Good luck with it.
|
Man that thing is clean. Congrats.
|
Just an update - the project truck is no longer. I decided to sell it to pick up another project bike. I just wanted to let everyone know. If anyone wants to buy a set of lowering spindles let me know.
|
How much drop and what year do they fit?
|
They are 2" and will fit 88-98. The 92-98 trucks require the older brake rotors though.
