Problems with late model Silverado's ?
Hello,
I am a new member of this forum and look forward to interacting with your members.
I am in the market for a new 1/2 ton pickup and need honest input on the 2010 and 2011 Silverado's. I now own a 2008 Duramax that I will be trading/selling and moving to a more economical truck. My truck has been very good with the exception of a problem with the computer that determines when I am in need of an oil change. Have had the truck at the dealer three times and they say that Chevrolet is aware of the problem but there is no fix. Sorry, don't buy that. If you can build it you can repair it. I had a problem a number of years ago with another Chevy truck that had a shimmy in it. Couldn't get it repaired either. Got the same reply from Chevrolet.
These things being said you can see why I am somewhat hesitant to give Chevrolet any more of my hard earned money.
I have researched the F150 and although I read a lot of good about the new models there seems to be a problem with either their transmissions or drive shafts. Ford is saying the same thing that Chevrolet has told me about my two problems. This does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
What I would like to know is Chevrolet experiencing any problems, with their later models, that they just can't seem to resolve. I know that most guys are prone to say they LOOOVE their trucks and it is hard to get an honest when you ask questions like this so please if you are a die hard Chevy guy and would never buy any other brand please just pass on this post. But if you know of something that a new buyer really should know please be so kind as to share it with me.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Charlie

Just because you got one bad apple, don't throw out the hole basket.

Hello Charlie, Like Glenn, above, I've also owned 'em all. Still do, actually. I agree with Glenn's advice. Also you should know that the dealer's are being honest with you when they tell you that there are occasionally issues that the manufacturers have not yet found a solution, too.
As situations arise, it sometimes take years of research to pin down all the scenarios that can cause a specific issue. The will usually find a "band-aide" before they find a cure. That's just how it is, sometimes. Unfortunate, but true, nonetheless. Stay on it, though.
If you don't like the preliminary feedback you're getting from GM and Ford, then, by all means look at the Dodge. I have a 2007 2500 Cummins Ram and a 2010 3500 Cummins Ram, and I couldn't be happier with them. I also have a 2008 GMC gas Crew cab that, luckily, has been wonderful, even though I've abused it a few times.
The fact is, all of the manufactures have issues with their new trucks. They are so sophisticated nowadays, that owners uncover issues before the factories are able to identify them. But, for the most part, they are really excellent vehicles. If I were you, I'd look at the truck that you prefer. Ask plenty of questions, and then make a decision.
Dealerships are becoming very willing to allow you to take truck home for a weekend to test drive it. take advantage of that, too. Drive anything you are considering. Get the facts before you decide.
Good Luck.

I have an '08. I had two problems with it before 30k miles. The hood latch switch went bad causing an intermittent "hood open" warning. And the alarm went off several times for no reason. Both were fixed under warranty, no questions asked. Lately, the driver's side window has refused to budge once when I pressed the button. I let up & pressed it again & it has worked fine since. One side of the front end is wearing the tire on the inside. It has 40K miles now. But that's not really a serious problem. I'm just gonna rotate the tires until they're all worn out & I'll level the front & get larger tires then get it aligned.
