Ram Air

I am looking at making my own Ram Air intake since I dont think the volant one is very good. Attached are the pics of where I plan he intake to be and the hole on the bottom of the volant box. Any ideas?

Try this, http://www.carolinaclassictrucks.com...-GH-GBXV8.htmlalthough after looking at the pic I honestly don't see much advantage to using this over a regular CAI

I had a functional ram air hood from suncoast performance and it was almost the same set up as this. I took it to the local speed shop to see how much flow it was getting and boy was i disappionted. The snorkels were on the front of the hood and not on the back by the windshield. we tested it and decided that the best functional setup would be with a cowl that faces the windshiled as the most air flow is acctually up there. another great place is under the front.

Smoke if you figure out how to build that scoop let me know cause I want to do the same thing. The volant one will not work with my ss front end they tell me so guess I have to go to the drawing board

You could just remove your headlight and save $1000...

I want something I can use everyday. Taking the headlight in and out just isn't gonna work.

VeraRam makes a kit that pulls fresh air in from your grille. Under $400.

I talked with my buddy and he said one kit for the mustangs all it seems to be is black drier vent tubing. Think that would work?

You could cut a jole in the bottom of your airbox and run some 4" garden pipe from Lowe's to a foglight hole or something.

I did rig up some of the flex hose on my old mustang and saw no difference what so ever. But I wonder if you use the solid metal drier vent hose so it won't flex and it would be smoother flow. it could work.

Just another though on it, if yo get somelarge pipe and have it bent at an exhaust shop you could haveone smooth continuous pipe to run it. then you would have to find a way to seal the filter in it so that it would RAM the air in rather than it beingjust an expensive source of cold air.

Where do I find the Veraram info?

Smoke, I know we both have the volant intake and I think this would work really well. Since I have the SS front end I can do it pretty much as this guy did. What do you think though?

Funny, I actually look at at that sameintake the other day at the local hardware store, but I was trying to find a way to put it in the hole I pictured on the bumper. I don't want to give up my fog lights.

RE: Ram Air

Are you planning on making it a true ram air and close off the air coming form the fender?

popo 04-12-2007 01:12 PM

RE: Ram Air

I think the concept is good but the bottom of their trucks remind me of the plumbing on the bottom of a trailer.

I would say go with the ram air only on the air box side of the truck and then have a continuous metal pipe mandrel bent to make a much cleaner install. who knows, you can probably patent and market it if it works well.

they never really said how it did performance wise other than an increase at 40 mph.

Sorry I have been gone, my laptop died and I had to steal another from my boses daughter. Anyways, I do plan to test the intake with the fender holes plugged and unplugged. I will test in every way I can think of to get the best performance. I believe closing the fender off will help alot.
