Default Rear end

Hi guys this is my first time here and i love the forums. First off i wanted to see if anyone could tell me what rear end i have in my truck because i am looking for a locker to help me out in the mud. I have a 1998 chevy silverado single cab, short bed, 4x4, Z71 with V-8. My next question is how big of a tire can i fit without rubbing or installing a lift?? I want either BFG all-terains or BFG mud-terrains.Thanx any help is appreciated.

a few things...if you tell me the current tire size, i can try to give you an idea on that increase in tire size...also, with reference to the rearend sizing...i would call a dealership, and tell them youre working on your truck, and ask them to filter by the VIN number..their system will tell them what rearend you have, so no guess work on our part! let me know how it goes!

hey your fenderwell should be the same size as my '94 given the fact that i have a 3 in. lift and i scape may z on big bumps on the road but im runnoing a 33x12.5r15 you should have 16 in wheels or 16.5 you will need to find out, if you have 16.5's bfg all terrains have a 31x10.5r16.5 that should do you some justice if you have 16 a 265/75r16 should work great you should even be able to fit a 285/75r16 and thats even better!

you should have a 10 bolt 3.73 rear end and i have a 98' Z71 9in on 35's and let me tell you the high gas prices and the more lifted trucks all money will be going to the gas to us proud chev owners, have fun with the truck i recommend not going over 4in on 33's it won't suck much gas and looks great.. otherwise if $ is tight then the biggest would be 31.50 on the stock 98' otherwise 285/75/R16 look nice

Alright guys thanks for all of the help, im thinking of a 31in bfg mud-terrain for the extra grip or a pro comp x terrain. I am also thinking of a eaton locker if i can find one. Yeah i agree i just got the truck and its pretty hard on gas b/c im used to my dads '00 powerstroke that gets 21 and im at about 10 i think. Thanx again for all the help!!
