Question 2: How big a job is it to change the gear ratio in the rear end of a 2007 Silverado? Any quesstimate on cost? The truck I bought is geared pretty low and I very very seldom tow. If I could make up the cost of the gear change in mileage, I am considering doing it.

It has a 3.73 rear end in it.

 

Gonna be tuff to go lower with factory parts...I think the ring gear would be a different size,meaning carrier,spiders,etc..

better go aftermarket

 

I'd say it would be about $600 said and done... Thatcould buya lot of gas...

 

If its 4x4 you need to change the front gears too.
