Good question, I'd be interesting is knowing how their held on also.
Glued or with plastic rivet type fasteners?

The molding is actually quite easy to remove. I started on it tonight and i got one side done and two pieces on the other side done....i have a 2002 silverado 1500. they are held on by two pieces of what looks like double sided tape. and you start by pulling it off then i rubbed the tape and it came off and then use some "Scratch X" i got from walmart to buff around it and you cannot tell they were ever there.

You can also start with a peice of good string or fishing line, as it won't scatch the paint. Just wind it up on your fingers like your flossing, and pull it back and forth, it will cut the sticky tape.
