Service stabilitrak & 4wd message
2015.5 LML, 85k miles. Last year, for the first time since the truck was new I noticed the STABILITRAK light coming on occasionally, especially when towing. Sometimes/frequently it would immediately be followed by SERVICE 4WD message. It seemed to get progressively worse and would come on when accelerating or when hitting some ruts/bumps. Before I had a chance to investigate further it went away for several months and didn't show up again until recently when towing our toy hauler back from Mojave. The messages come on again during acceleration...especially when going up a grade, but more often when going over rough roads. When not towing it seems to come on only when I hit bumps, etc. When the message comes on the truck hesitates a moment but then smooths out and the message goes away...until I hit the next ruts/bumps. I can cruise on a freeway for a couple hours without any problems and then drive onto a rough road and bam...it happens again.
The truck never did this prior to 2020 and the only thing done since then is a new set of airbags to replace old set.
The truck has Edge Insight CTS2 with Idaho Rob tunes, Twin turbo, dual fueler. Pro Comp 6" lift with 35" Toyo's, Firestone 7500 airbags.
Just purchased a Banks Pedal Monster. Had to do a 3 way OBDII pigtail to accommodate the Pedal Monster, Edge CTS2 & AMP steps. Now when the STABILITRAK message appears it knocks out the Pedal Monster and the CTS2 freezes up. Obviously a communication disruption via the OBD signal when the STABILITRAK comes on so now even more reason to figure out what is causing the STABILITRAK issue.
I did some research on this issue and found several threads dealing with dreaded G218 dash ground issue, etc. but no specific discussion as per my specific conditions.
I have read that the front wheel sensors may be faulty...but it seems that the issue happens more when my BACK wheels hit rough terrain or under load (PS I probably put the truck in 4WD 10-15 times per year only when necessary and for very short periods of time). I also saw somewhere that the rear wheel sensors somehow are wired into a transfer case sensor but there seems to be conflicting information on this.
I have also seen a few threads on similar issues where dealers throw parts at the issue without success.
Hoping someone out there has either dealt with this issue or can provide insight into possible causes...other than "just don't hit any bumps...".
