Default Shave your antenna for free!!!

Figured this out when I was bored. Pop your hood and pop off the little blackplastic cowlpiece that goes around your antenna. There are two clips in the rear, and one in the front. Next, remove the three bolts that secure your antenna to the base. Remove your antenna from the base and unscrew your antenna from the connection. Finesse your connection around the hoodhinge and re tighten your antenna and lay it down along the top of the fender. 99-02's can actually put the antenna through the rubber snubber and hide it under the hood seal... Just snap the black plastic piece back on and bingo. I've heard you can order a cowl piece off ofan Escalade that does not havean antenna hole initfor like $10...

Will the antenna work as good as this way or does it hurt the signal?

It didn't change any in mine. A co-worker has a 2004 and he said it improved his signal slightly.

I did this same mod, and correct, you can get the cowl piece for the Escalade which doesn't have the antenna hole since theirs is on the rear window (if I remember correctly). It's about $10 and you can get it from your local Chevy dealer. I mainly listen to XM but checked my FM reception after the mod and everything was perfect.

Worked great on my 05 silverado. Went to dealer today and the replacement part is $14.95 so thats not to bad to get a shaved antenna. Thanks MrLM7

Anyone have the GM part# for the cowl piece? I am amazed that nobody notice a loss of reception laying the antenna down like that, was always taught that FM needs a certain length/height to maximize reception,so much for that.
