Starting issues on 2002 sierra 1500
I put a new starter on and hit the key and nothing happened. Jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver to check to see if the starter was good. It kicked on but would not kick off. Had to disconnect the battery ground. Took the starter off and noticed I put the heat shield on backwards and part of it was touching the ignition wire. Put it on a bench and hooked it up and everything worked fine. Put it back on and it done the same thing when I touched the ground to the battery. Checked the ignition switch it was fine. Checked relays and fuses and had a blown 40 amp fuse. Took it back off and bench tested it again. Everything worked fine. Thought the ear from the battery cable might have been making contact with the ignition wire so I took the little ear off. Tested the ignition wire for voltage and it had nothing. Put it back on and the same thing happened when I touched the ground to the battery. I'm lost.
