straps on fuel tank
I have a 2000 3/4 ton 4WD GMC Safari . It has less then 70,000 miles on it and is kept in a heated garage 24/7 /Last Friday was driving along and hit a small dip in the road and pow the gas tank dropped onto the road and thanks to a poly tank did not create sparks .the adjuster looked at it today and they said normal wear and tare .the straps inside the plastic around then were gone .THe only thing that was holding the tank in was the shroud under the tank Insurance says no cover ..has any one else had such an issue ? it is very disturbing to have this happen .any input is welcome .Yes there will be letters to GM . I bought the truck new so am original owner .
Hmm ... I thought there would be a TSB about this, but I can't find it.
I remember my dad talking about GM doing research into the issue. As far as I know, it's a known issue. They straps just rust out I think.
Just repair the damage, and re-attach the fuel tank with new straps.
