I have 03 tail lights in my 2000. You have to get a different wiring harness for the lens though. The 03 and newers have 4 bulbs as apposed to the 3 bulbs in the 99 to 02. The harnesses were like $20 from the dealer. So thats really all you would have to do to get them to work in your 89. Just cut and wire

 

by three lights do you mean 3 bulbs for the brake/tail, turn, and reverse? thats good to know about the harness. just need to make sure on the fitment, what year tailights is it for the kind with the brack trim around them on the 03 and newer?
