Default Tailgate problem

I tried to search for this problem, but couldn't find anything. The tailgate on my 2009 Silverado is hard to open. I have to push in on the gate so the handle will unlatch it. I stopped by the dealer & they blamed it on the LineX spray, but when I looked closer at it later, the gate doesn't even touch the bed or the sides. Is there an adjustment that can be made? Thanks.

i dunno if this helps but my 01 has the same problem u have to push the tailgate to open it but it was an easy fix there is little rubber stoppers that keep pressure on the latches which allows it to open but if they brake or fall off u have to push on the tail gate to apply pressure and it opens. hope it helps its the new body style so im not sure if its the same idea on the tail gate side of things

wow what your dealer told you is a bunch off horse ****, how could the linex affect it unless they sprayed it right inside or over the mechanizims which i highly doubt they did lol, what a freakin cop-out eh, go back to them and demand they fix it lol

Default 2009 gmc tailgate latch

Have the same problems with my 1500. Noticed it when I got back from the dealer the day I bought it. I plan to take it in and have it looked at on my next service date. Hope its a quick fix, but the handle feels like cheap china crap in your hand. They will probably replace it with an oem handle of the same grade, whats the point.

Under the handle you can see the metal moving parts, spray some penetrating lube in there and see if that helps. Water gets in there and will create rust on those moving parts.
