Default temp gauge problem, not working

i have 03 silverado with a 4.3 vortec. the temp gauge was not working along with other gauges so i replaced all stepper motors, all gauges work now except the temp gauge. when you start the truck the temp gauge jumps about a 1/4 of the way over and back down (as do all the gauges, which is normal) but it never moves up while driving. it stays all the way down. i replaced the temp sensor located between the spark plugs on the drivers side. still does not work. is there another sensor i need to replace? or does anyone have an idea? any help would be appreciated.
