Im thinking of getting a chevy 2500HD EX cab Shortbed with a 8.1 allison. I was wondering if any of yall have had one and did you like it? I might do some towing with it occasionally but not on a normal basis mostly long empty hauls, and in town driving, and some minor offroading. From what i know so far it doesnt have any mods. I will most likely get a K&N intake, Flowmasters, and a programmer if i get it, but this truck has everything i want in a truck if it wasnt a 8.1 i would have bought it already, but im worried now that im thinkin of mileage.

 

If your concerned about mileage you might want to keep looking. If you want a BADASS towing powerful truck then buy it. I had one and regret selling it! They only get about 8-10 MPG but the power was worth it to me. I tow a lot though. Good luck!

 

My buddy has the 8.1 in his Avalanche 4X4. He got 12 MPG on the freeway. That was going to San Antonio from Houston, Tx and running the speed limit. Lots of pwer, but terrible MPG. Around town was as noted above.

 

it should be noted though, if you're worried about mileage, skip over the 6.0 as well, because it gets very similar mileage to the 8.1 with less power
