Default tinny sound from transfer case

Hi, new member tonight. I have a 2002 2500 HD with the 6.0 auto. manual shift transfer case. I noticed there is a ping sound when I was engaged in either 4H or 4L. Makes the sound in Forward or Reverse at very low speeds. Especially when truck begins to move. Could it be the chain? I hope it's not expensive, just got the truck back last night. I was stranded on the weekendOver $1000 for a new fuel pump from a GM dealership. Thanks for any info. Monty

I think this truck is possessed! Started truck today, low fuel message was displayed, fuel gauge didn't move. I have almost a full tank. A minute or later the fuel gauge suddenly registers. Phoned dealership and they said the Cluster is probably pooched. They said it wouldn't leave me stranded again. I went for a short ride andnow the gauge indicates a half tank! What exactly isa cluster? Computer related and big bucks I assume.

Dash cluster, where all your gages are. The part is $350 from the dealership and about $150 for install if it has to be programmed.

I posted a last week about a suburban '03 and all they had was a seatbelt recall. The service guy told me,"Don't worry about it unless you use it." Unless I use it?!

its not a recall..its a special policy....which means the part MUST FAIL before gm will fix it.....they are just adding warranty to a suspect part

[:'(]Thanks for the info. I'll have to look for another cluster. All the other gauges work fine though. I have another problem. My check engine light came on a while back. The GM dealership said that a module was in need of replacing. The module controls the rear anti-lock brakes. Is this a difficult fix? Thanks

Argon - How do you get the dealership to replace a cluster if it's not a recall? The dealership I spoke to mentioned nothing about special policy. Does this mean the vehicle must still be close to factory warranty?
