Default Towing Wiring

Okay. Since my 99 Sierra has been through 6 different owners, I have come to look at the towing wires and the trailer light wires. All of them have been cut, stripped, and then some.

First question. How do I go about sorting the wires to the extent where I can use them?
Here is a picture of the hitch trailer light wiring:

Here is a picture of the wiring for the 6-24 volt exterior port

Second question. Is this the right connection I need for the Hitch trailer light wiring? If not, what do I need?

If this helps any, this is a picture of the light. That is what I will be installing in the Hitch reciever

Is it possible and/or advisable to butcher the extension wires and wire the truck's wires and then connect it to the light using the correct connector from the extension connector?

if it was me, i would just put them back how they SHOULD be, then use that adapter that you have for the trailer...i wouldnt try rewiring anything unless you are sure of what you are doing...and since your on here asking the question, i would suggest no, just put it back how it should be in the first place.

I don't know what the wiring looked like at first. Remember, it went through 6 other owners before me. All whom have butchered the wires as you see them now.

The first picture is the trailer light wiring.

i have a suggestion...try going to a uhaul and see if they would do it, cause i know if you rent a trailer they HAVE to fix it before it goes out the yard and they never charged me to fix the wiring...or if not and you want to do it yourself, i can see if i have a diagram laying around somewhere around here...

I'm not going to haul a trailer any time soon, though. I just want to have that hitch reciever cover light/break light wired up correctly. I think I know what I have to do, it's just doing it when weather isn't an issue.
