Default Tranny Pan Blues

I have a 06 5.3liter,4X4, 4l60E transmission. I need to change my tranny fluid and filter. I had a 99 5.3liter, 4X4 andhad to drop the exhaust toget the pan off. Its basically the same truck. Is there anyway to drop that pan without having to drop the exhaust?

Well I discovered on my own how to remove the pan, and it wasn't by lifting the rear end of the transmission with a jack. I did it by removing the front drive line, and with a small pry bar (to knudge the mount for the transmission linkage) the pan fell right out. Took a 1/4 of the time I thought it would. Now if I could just get the parts store to give me the right filter next time, it would have been perfect.

Seems I'm having the same problem you had on dropping the pan inorder to change the filter and fluid. The book says remove the range cable mounting bracket[ hell I can't even see how that is mounted] I also tried prying the cable bracket over with no luck either. Could you please clarify what you mean by dropping the front driveshaft and how that allows you to pry over the bracket enough to drop the pan. Thank You
Bob
