Default transmission

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I have a situation that was very expensive to repair. I have a 2002 silverado with 5.3 L engine. I bought it four years ago and it had 19000 miles. Now the truck has 58455 miles. The transmission started acting like it was hunting between overdrive and third gear. It would start this while cruising down the road at 35-40 MPH. And while going up a hill. The only trailer I towed was a small pop-up trialer. I had the hitch installed when I bought the truck. My mechanic sent the truck to a transmission shop and much to my surprise, they said that their was water in the transmission. The bands were pitted from the water and the clutches were burnt. The first question they asked me was if I had a boat. Which I don't. Anyways, I would have to submerge half the truck in water for this to happen. No one can come up with a reasonas to how watergot into the transmission. I have an extended warranty on the truck, but DIRECT WARRANTY INC.refused to pay for this because of water. Does anyone out their know how water gets into the transmission, I would sure like to know, or if GM has any bulletins out on this subject. By the way, it cost me $2600.00 for a complete rebuilt trasmission.
