Transmission cooler ??

I have a 2001 silverado which was not equipped with towing package.....i've been told that even though my truck wasn't equipped with towing package, that it still may have been equipped with a transmission cooler......without taking all the shrouds off around front of the engine, i see some sort of a radiator in front of the engine rad........would that be a trans cooler or maybe something related to the A/C system??

yes, the rad infront of the engine rad is related to thr a/c system...
IF ur truck has a tranny cooler, it would be located infront of the a/c cooler.
it would look similiar to this...

lets clarify a little bit you are refering to an external cooler right? because ALL automatic vehicles have a cooler just not an external one.

I agree with chrisbmo2000... are you referring to an extternal Transmision cooler?

The radiator is closest to the engine and the AC condenser is in front of the radiator. The radiator has a built-in trans cooler on the passenger side.

The external cooler should be sitting right behind your bowtie logo on your grill. It runs through the radiator first then through this cooler, which I dont think it is enough to cool it. I added a bigger one to mine.

HaHa that just made me think of my "yonger" and more inventive days.............I once took a A/C condenser cut the ends of the hoses and used it as a tranny cooler.....you want to talk about doubling the fluid capacity and keeping a tranny cool. LOL that was on my 78 C10.

RUFFNECK4LYFE 05-25-2009 12:19 AM

Lol. Dam thats the way to do it. And I had a condensor laying around. I shoulda done that!!

Is there a connection setup that will bolt into the stock lines so some one will not have to cut the stock lines in order to add an external tranny cooler?

RUFFNECK4LYFE 05-25-2009 11:04 AM

If you get rid of the stock cooler, I believe those connections will fit into some of the aftermarket coolers. So basically just switching out to a bigger one.
