true duals vs x or h pipe
hey guys im gonna change up my exhaust again and i want to go true duals ive herd some of the muscle cars at work with true duals no h or x sound great. just not sure what to do, im mostly looking for the best sound, so i was wonder which one sound better true, x or h.
im gonna run stock cats with no-muffler on a 4.8

An x pipe runs more efficiently than an h for the simple fact that you don't want sharp bends in the exhaust. Placement of the crossover is also important as well as the size of the pipe. Going with a high flow cat will also drastically change the exhaust tone. All of this when done right will not only sound good but let the engine breathe more.
Your gonna kill your back pressure which = less torque. Your truck will be louder but feel slower. I just swapped mufflers on my 92 yesterday. The PO eliminated the cat and had a 2 chamber flowmaster. It was loud as hell and the truck would downshift going up the smallest incline. I stuck a magnaflow muffler in place of the flowmaster and got some back pressure back and now the truck feels and (IMO) sounds much better. I am am still considering a high flow cat to tone it down a little more and to get rid of that rich smell, but the truck is much more enjoyable to drive now. Remember loud does not = fast!
Your gonna lose power. If you just want sound then a simple catback mandrel bet piping with a magnaflow muffler would be a better option. But that 4.8 doesn't put out enough exhaust to need true dual. Im running single 3" on my 5.3 and its cammed, but I think its too much flow.
i have been runnin straight piped dual exhaust, just y-piped after i cut the muffler off, with 2.5" pipe and 3.5" tips. im putting a 3in body lift so i had to change up the exhaust. ive been runnin straight piped for 3 yrs now it runs fine and sounds great.
