You might as well get it upgraded at the same time to handle the full power our engines can put out. Then you can remove more tq management.

hmmm... good idea... i was thinking about that earlier, wondering if they could do something to make it shift firmer or just generally toughen it up

There are some companies that can really beef up these trannys, but local shops usually can't. You may have to order it or go to a performance shop. Just shop around as the price varies alot.

I paid $ 2,500 for a rebuild from a reputable shop in 2004, the shop gave me a 12 month / 12,000 mile waranty. Then we hired an exGMer who told me that for a little more I could have gotten a GM rebuildfor ~$ 3,200 with a 36 month / 36,000 warranty. You definitely want to shop your options...

Hey Chevy if you need to buy yourself a little time with your current tranny especially since it has just started slipping, Do a transmission service on it but leave it a quart shy of fluid. Go to your parts store before you do the service of course and get a product called Trans-X. I am pretty sure that Lucas has their own brand that would work just fine too. Pour that in there. It will help swell up the seals and such. It might buy you about six months or so. Maybe more depending on how you drive it. Years ago when I used to wrench I had this old ass cadillac come in that would barely move. We did the above mentioned to it and the car left under its own power. Hell it felt like new honestly.

Definitely do a trans fluid change and replace one of the quarts with Lucas stop slip. If the tranny is really bad then replace two quarts of oil for Lucas stop slip. Im sort of hard on my truck but I got 171k miles out of it with no tranny rebuild yet so the Lucas is holding it together pretty well. If your gettting your tranny rebuilt just buy the rebuild kit yourself along with removing the tranny to bring into a rebuild shop with a few extra hard parts here and there along with a corvette servo and trans go shiftkit for firmer shifts I bet you could save some money vs them paying for the parts and removing the tranny.:)

Meh Im a freak where I change my tranny oil every 6-10k miles with the lucas spending $60 on fluids which is cheaper to me rather than buying a new $2500 tranny atm.

yeah... i can get a rebuild for 1400 but i dont know if they do performance stuff... ill just have to shop around... since i've lost my owner's manual does anybody know how often you're supposed to service the tranny?
